You Gotta Love 'Em

.

There were two blondes who went deep into the frozen woods searching for a Christmas tree. After hours of subzero temperatures and a few close calls with hungry wolves, one blonde turned to the other and said, “I’m chopping down the next tree I see. I don’t care whether it’s decorated or not!”

Egads! What were they smoking when they did that to those trees!

They gave up to soon. Those predecorated trees are out there, you just which frozen woods to look in.

A favorite Calvin and Hobbes cartoon shows Calvin asking his dad, since it's getting close to Christmas, when they were going to pick out a tree. His dad says that he thinks this year they should wait til after Christmas and get one off the street... they still have some tinsel on them, and it's so much cheaper. The last panel shows Calvin on the kitchen floor clinging to his mother's ankles. "What did he tell you this time," she says. ,oD

I adore Calvin and Hobbes.

I saw on the news that some place in New York is offering a personal tree-decorating service ... you know, because paying strangers to decorate your tree for you is just so heartwarming. Along with the shopping and baking service they offer ... taking the Christmas out of Christmas because who needs the "stress" right? ;)

Paul that joke is a total groaner! It did make me smile however and I will probably use it about ten times this weekend!

Have a good weekend.
Steven.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas. Three sets of lyrics.

Set one, very dark, reflecting a dark time -- mid WW II with no end in sight. Rejected by Judy as she felt she'd look like a monster singing them to a little girl (Maggs O'Brian in Meet Me In St. Louis).

Set two a bit brighter, but still darkish, the ones she sang in the film. This is the set I prefer – melancholic with the hopeful promise of redemption in the final verse.

Set three, written at the request of Sinatra (heeeeey, Jilly sez that Frankie Boy doesn't sing dark lyrics, so change them unless you want to swim with the fishes). Actually hate this set as they are like Aunt Bernice's clove fruit cake -- to be avoided at all costs.

Now, set one is what more and more singers are choosing. Very melancholic.

And you have yourself a merry little christmas and be the meaning of this time in all that you say and all that you do. Cheers, Will

I transformed the blondes to blonds in my mind, so I was interested in what they did after they came in from the cold.....
