I have heard that this film is a sleeper, i.e., an unexpectedly great movie. I want to see it.

Gut wrencher-yes.
I loved it. Each character so endearing to me, save of course the obvious bad guys.
Oh that movie made me cringe at how life must be for some children in the world.
