Sometimes It's Hard To Say "No"

.
Self discipline is when your
conscious tells you
to do something
and

you don't talk back.

- W.K. Hope

The first year I lived in Chicago, a friend of mine from work and I were walking home one night when we found a $50 bill on the sidewalk. We knew that there was nowhere to turn it in, but we wanted to do some good with our new-found fortune. We settled on buying twenty-five boxes of Girl Scout cookies.

I have no self discipline when it comes to Thin Mints.

The new 'thank-you's, shortbread cookies with a chocolate coating on one side. A box (or two) with a cup of coffee and life is goooood.

Skip the thin mints. Go for the peanut butter cremes. :)

I was in a public laundromat in New York; my beloved comforter, my only comforter was stolen from the dryer. I was planning on taking it with me on the train to visit my mother in Florida. I didn't have a lot of money in those days.

The next day I was walking on Broadway in lower Manhattan in rush hour. Hundreds of pedestrians were streaming toward subways and the ferry. I looked down and found a $100. bill on the sidewalk, just sitting there, in plain sight, which nobody noticed. I used it to reserve a sleeping car on the train.

Paul don't look at it as no self discipline, put a positive spin on it as HELPING out the girl scouts! Just think of all the kids that maybe you helped keep off the streets and away from crack! Ok so maybe I'm really reaching here but I'm just trying to make you feel better. ; )

That was an awesome thing to do. You helped out an amazing organization.

Last week Dario found a $5 bill lying on the ground in the park across the street from our house. He didn't really have a concept as to how much money this was and wanted to either buy an Xbox or a new hot wheel car. As shortly afterwards, near where the money was found, I saw an open ziplock bag containing a signed permission slip for a kid's school field trip, I made the jump that the money had come from the same source. This turned out to be correct. Dario felt good about returning the money and form to the little girl who had lost it. A nice little moment of serendipity.

I have no self discipline when it comes to some cookies, either. Like Lemuel, though, I reach for the peanutbutter creams.

Aw, first of all I gotta say...good call on the tune today. Hubby sang that to me when we started dating and I melted. It's a special one. Thanks!

Even though you caved and enjoyed the cookies...you did good. Yay, you!

My dad gives me a Wal-Mart card every christmas. I won't shop there. My good deed is to pass it on to someone who can really use it.

I talk back to my conscience all the time.

Cooper mentioned the magic word on his blog - shortbread. Thin mints are good too, but if there's a bag of Pepperidge Farm Chessmen in the vicinity, it won't be for long.

Mmmmmmm ... Thin Mints.

And Shortbread.

And those things with chocoloate and cocnut and something else - Tagalongs? LOVE THEM.

You done good. I'm not surprised.

I, too, don't look at the weakness in your post, but the strength in what was done for an organization. SPLURGE on those thin mints. Although I would have gone for the Tagalongs, like Matt.

I've never met a Girl Scout cookie I didn't like. Especially the ones made with real Girl Scouts. ;)

(Btw, what movie is that from?)

Put yourself down for some extra karma points for your good deed.

I had to come back to tell you that I went to see Into the Wild last night. Having read the book, I had low expectations, but you made a good call. It was reall well done. And thanks to you, dahlink, I super de dooper enjoyed the soundtrack, having had you turn me onto it prior.

Hubby keeps talking about it as if he discovered that CD! I remind him it was Paul...

Every year I order a case of Thin Mints to help get me through tax season.

When I meet someone who prefers another variety, I try to think "Chacun a son gout," but I don't really believe that when it comes to Girl Scout cookies. I do, however, believe "More for me."
